Biologic Bike Mount for iPhone 4S

Suitable for iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and any bicycle.

I have tried a few different bicycle mounts for both the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS after completely obliterating the screen on the 3GS when it fell out of my pocket. (see the picture!) I like to use the Sports Tracker App to track my bike rides around Singapore and have been toying with the idea of getting a GoPro camera just for a bit of fun. Until now I haven’t found anything that held the phone steady enough and also enabled me to use the iPhone video camera easily.

One iPhone holder I was using was actually designed to be worn around the arm with a velcro strap when jogging but I was wrapping it around the front of the bike frame. It was a cheap alternative to to Biologic iPhone Bike Mount for using the Sports Tracker app but no good for using the iPhone video camera to film bike rides.

Another iPhone bike mount I used was around $5 on eBay, it looked sturdy enough and would probably have been ok if you were riding on a completely flat and smooth surface on a sunny day but it wasn’t very good for any slightly rough terrain. I had to wrap rubber bands around it and the iPhone to make sure it didn’t bounce out.

The first thing I noticed when checking out the Biologic iPhone Bike Mount was how well it is designed and made. The plastic does not feel cheap like a a lot of bike mounts on the market and the box includes an inner cradle to suit the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 and another one for the iPhone 3GS. It looks it would also be suitable for the iPhone 3 and iPod Touch but I have not tested it with these.

The main iPhone case completely encloses the phone in a water resistant housing and has a thin clear plastic screen so the iPhone touch features can be easily used. There are rubber plugs where the headphone plug is so headphones can be used and the iPhone lock button and home button or both easily accessible.

The separate bracket that grips the handle bars is also simple to use and very well designed. It uses a threaded strap that is tightened with an allen key that is also included in the box. I mounted it on my Gary Fisher Tassajara hard tail mountain bike which has quite thick handlebars and it mounts perfectly. The bracket is designed to fit any size handlebars.

Fitting the iPhone mount to the bike takes less than one minute. Once the phone holder is clipped on it can be rotated 360 degreesĀ  for using the iPhone in a horizontal or vertical position depending on if you want to use some kind of tracking app or record video using the built in iPhone camera.

I took it out for a spin and tested out both the Sports Tracker app and the iPhone video camera. Here is how the video came out. (I have only added a watermark and fade in, the rest is straight off the iPhone 4).

Out of all the bike mounts I have tried, this one is the best hands down, definitely worth the money. You can find more info and buy it from the Biologic Website. I have also seen them in a few shops around Singapore. TokyoBike in Haji lane (near Arab St) has them.
